Choosing a model
Metir is not tied to one AI company. The composer's category chip switches between tiers of capability, and inside each tier you can choose the exact model you want from several providers.

Your choice sticks until you change it
- The chip is on Auto by default
- Five categories, cheapest to strongest
- Picking one opens the full model list
- Your choice sticks until you change it
The five categories
| Category | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Auto | Everything, unless you have a reason not to. Metir chooses per message. |
| Smart | Quick questions, drafting and summarising. Fastest and cheapest. |
| Expert | Analysis, longer documents and careful writing. |
| Genius | Hard reasoning, maths, code and multi-step problems. Slowest and most expensive. |
| Image | Generating and editing pictures. See images. |
Picking a specific model
Choosing any category other than Auto opens the model picker. Models are grouped by the company that made them, so you can pick a specific one when you have a preference.
What the badges mean
- Pro Model, available on paid plans.
- Supports Files, this model can read attachments.
- Reasoning Model, this model thinks before answering, which is slower and better on hard problems.
Why Auto is the default
Auto picks for you, so you do not pay Genius prices for a one-line answer and you do not get a rushed answer to a hard question. See plans and credits.
Some models do not accept file attachments. If Upload from computer and My Files are greyed out in the plus menu, the selected model is the reason. Switch category, or pick a model with the Supports Files badge.
