Tags, collections, trash and versions

Knowledge gets big quickly. Four light tools keep it findable, and none of them require you to decide a folder structure up front.

Deleting is recoverable

Collections, tags and the trash tab
  1. Tabs split notes, files and artifacts
  2. Collections cut across folders
  3. Filter by tag too
  4. Deleting is recoverable

The tabs

Recent, Notes, Files, Artifacts and Trash. Artifacts are the documents, decks and spreadsheets Metir made. See slide decks.

Tags

Your own tags, plus tags Metir generates while indexing. Both are searchable, and you can filter the whole view by any one of them.

Collections

Groupings that cut across folders and projects. Create one with New collection, then add items from a row's menu. Better than folders when a piece of work pulls from several places.

Trash

Deleting moves an item to Trash, where you can restore it or delete it forever. Trashed items are hidden from search and from research runs, so a deleted document stops influencing answers immediately.

Versions

Snapshot a file and restore an earlier version later. Restoring re-indexes it, so search reflects what the file says now.

Reach for a collection rather than a folder when the work pulls from several places. Folders force one home per file; collections do not.
