What a Blob is
A Blob is an AI teammate you message like a person. It has one job, its own memory of that job, and it keeps working between your messages instead of waiting for the next one.
Blobs is rolling out gradually. If you do not see Blobs in your sidebar, it is not on for your account yet.

And it comes back when it needs you
- A Blob is a thread, like a person
- It carries on working after you message it
- You can watch what it is doing
- And it comes back when it needs you
How it differs from a chat
| A chat | A Blob | |
|---|---|---|
| Shape | A conversation you drive | A teammate with a standing job |
| Between messages | Nothing happens | It can keep working |
| Memory | Your general memory | Its own memory of its own job |
| Acting on its own | Only when you ask | Within the limits you set |
For an ordinary conversation, use chat. See the composer.
Where to find it
The Blobs row in the sidebar, above Workspace. Each Blob is a thread you can open and message.
The statuses you will see
- Idle, nothing in progress.
- Working, doing something now.
- Waiting for you, it needs a decision. See approvals and undo.
- Blocked, it cannot continue, usually because it lacks access to something.
- Something went wrong, an error it could not recover from.
Starter Blobs
Metir suggests a few to begin with, each with a job already described:
- Chief of Staff, keeps the week on track.
- Inbox, triages email.
- Research, digs into questions.
- Recruiter, sources and screens candidates.
- Expenses, watches the spend.
Seeing its work
A Blob shows what it is doing rather than going quiet. Show work and Hide work toggle the detail. See creating a Blob.
