The Anthropic IPO now has a reported calendar. On October 1, 2026, Bloomberg reported that Anthropic is considering launching its offering as soon as mid-November, with formal marketing possibly starting the week of November 9 and trading beginning before Thanksgiving on November 26. Prospective investors reportedly see a valuation of $1.8 trillion to $2 trillion. PYMNTS notes that Bloomberg describes the plans as still under consideration, and that the timing could change. We have already covered the prospectus numbers, the founders' voting structure and OpenAI's private round. This piece is about the calendar.
The Anthropic IPO calendar, step by step
An IPO follows a fairly standard sequence. The dates below mix reported facts with our own arithmetic, and we label which is which.
| Step | What happens | Where this IPO stands |
|---|---|---|
| Confidential filing | Draft S-1 reviewed by the SEC privately | Reported filed June 1, 2026 |
| Public S-1 | Financials and risk factors become public | SEC guidance requires this at least 15 days before the roadshow starts, so about Oct 25 if marketing begins Nov 9 (our arithmetic) |
| Roadshow | Management pitches institutional investors and builds the order book | Reported to start the week of Nov 9 |
| Pricing and first trade | Underwriters set the price, shares begin trading | Reported target: before Nov 26 |
| Lockup expiry | Insiders become free to sell | Not disclosed; see below |
Two external dates frame it. SiliconANGLE notes the target follows the November 3 US midterm elections, which fits earlier reports that the listing would wait until after them. And Thanksgiving is a hard stop in practice: US markets close for the holiday, and trading volume tends to be thin around it, so a slip past November 26 would plausibly push the debut into December. That second point is general market behavior rather than anything reported about Anthropic.
Between the reported launch of marketing and the reported first trade there are only 17 days.
Our arithmetic from the Bloomberg dates
How the mega-IPO calendar compares with SpaceX
The closest precedent is SpaceX. According to Wikipedia's summary of the offering and CNBC, SpaceX listed on Nasdaq on June 12, 2026, pricing 555.6 million shares at $135 to raise about $75 billion at a valuation near $1.75 trillion. Shares rose about 19% on the first day, lifting its market value to roughly $2.1 trillion. That made it the largest IPO on record, ahead of Saudi Aramco's $25.6 billion 2019 listing (TechCrunch), and it set the bar Anthropic would be measured against.
How big would a $100 billion raise be?
Proceeds at pricing for the largest IPOs on record, in billions of dollars, versus the most Anthropic has been reported to be considering raising.
Base-deal proceeds before any over-allotment option. The Anthropic bar is a reported ceiling, not a priced offering.
Anthropic's reported figures are larger on both axes. Coverage citing the WSJ and Reuters says the offering could raise as much as $100 billion (Quartz), above SpaceX's record. TechTimes reported in September that Anthropic picked Nasdaq, and the lead underwriters are reported to be Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan, with Citigroup also named in some coverage. Treat the raise size as a ceiling under discussion rather than a plan.

Lockups: the calendar after the debut
The date that matters to employees and early backers is not the first trade but the lockup expiry. A lockup is an agreement that bars insiders from selling for a set period, usually 90 to 180 days after the offering, per Wikipedia's lock-up overview and the standard 180-day language in SEC-filed lockup agreements. SpaceX is a live template: its reported terms were 366 days for Elon Musk and insiders and staggered 180-day periods for other pre-IPO investors, with only about 5% of shares in the public float.
Anthropic has not disclosed its terms. If it adopted a 180-day standard and priced around November 20, expiry would land near mid-May 2027 (our arithmetic, purely illustrative). A small float plus a staggered lockup are the two variables that shape how volatile early trading can be.
The race with OpenAI
The other timing story is who goes first. OpenAI is reported to have postponed its IPO past 2026 and to be raising at least $30 billion privately at about $1.4 trillion, with Sam Altman quoted by Yahoo Finance saying that "right now would be an ill-advised moment to go public." If Anthropic lists first, public investors get a market price for a frontier lab before OpenAI's own prospectus, and the Anthropic debut becomes a reference point for any later OpenAI valuation. That is an inference, not a reported outcome.
What investors will scrutinize on this timeline
A compressed calendar leaves a short window to digest a long document. The items our earlier posts flagged are the likely focus: a $42 billion fiscal 2025 net loss against $4.6 billion in revenue, about $518 billion of planned infrastructure commitments, the founders' 50.1% voting block, and risk-factor language about model behavior. Yahoo Finance also cites the Trump administration's supply chain risk label as an ongoing issue. Our full prospectus breakdown covers each of those, so we will not repeat the analysis here.
What it means for people who build on AI
For teams using Claude, an IPO changes disclosure and governance, not the model in front of you. Still, a public Anthropic and a delayed OpenAI is a reminder that provider fortunes diverge. Tools that let you switch models, as Metir does across providers, keep that kind of corporate timing from becoming a dependency.
Bottom line
The reported plan is a week-of-November-9 launch and a pre-Thanksgiving debut, roughly 17 days apart, after a public S-1 around late October. Every date is conditional, and Bloomberg itself says the timing could change. The next verifiable signals are the public filing and any announced price range.
