On September 30, 2026, Bloomberg reported that SpaceXAI, the merged SpaceX and xAI company that also owns X, is considering a four-tier subscription that would put Grok and X under one bill. The key word is considering: the report is based on an internal document, the plan has not been announced, and SpaceXAI had not confirmed it at the time of the coverage. Prices and features could change before any release. This post looks at what was reported, how it compares with current consumer AI pricing, and what a $100 agent tier would signal.
What the four-tier subscription would include
According to the coverage of the Bloomberg report, the structure is:
- Free: Grok with tighter usage limits.
- Lite, $8 per month: Grok access, X verification and a lighter ad load.
- A fourth tier: The articles do not describe a second paid tier in detail.
- Ultra, up to $100 per month: Aimed at power users and including Grok Bot, the company's autonomous agent. The reporting framed it as a higher-margin, enterprise-adjacent revenue line.
The stated goal is to broaden adoption while monetizing the heaviest compute workloads, and to build steadier cash flow against OpenAI and Anthropic.
How it compares with current X Premium and SuperGrok pricing
Today, X and xAI sell overlapping products. Third-party trackers list X Premium at $8 per month, X Premium+ at $40 (reported to include SuperGrok and Grok Bot), SuperGrok Lite at $10 and SuperGrok at $30. SuperGrok Heavy is reported at $300. We could not load xAI's or X's own pricing pages, so treat these xAI figures as reported rather than confirmed, and note that one tracker called Lite's $10 and Heavy's $300 the least certain numbers in the lineup.
If those figures hold, a unified plan would collapse a confusing set of near-duplicate products into one ladder. It would also leave a $100 step between a mid-priced plan and the current $300 top end.

The consumer AI price ladder
Rivals have settled on a similar shape. Google lists AI Plus at $4.99, AI Pro at $19.99 and AI Ultra at $99.99 (5x usage) or $199.99 (20x). Anthropic lists Claude Pro at $20 per month ($17 billed annually) and Max from $100. ChatGPT is listed at Go $8 (ad-supported), Plus $20 and Pro $100, with a $200 Pro tier closed to new sign-ups, per a September 28 pricing roundup that we could not cross-check against OpenAI's page.
The consumer AI price ladder converges on $8, $20 and $100
Monthly US list prices, up to the $100 tier. Dashed bars are the two SpaceXAI figures reported on September 30, 2026, which are under consideration and not launched.

SpaceXAI (reported proposal)
Higher tiers exist and are omitted: ChatGPT Pro at $200 (existing subscribers), Google AI Ultra at $199.99, and SuperGrok Heavy, reported at $300.
The pattern is clear: an entry tier near $8, a mainstream tier near $20, and a power tier near $100. SpaceXAI's reported $8 Lite and $100 Ultra would match two of those three rungs, while the missing $20 slot is where the unspecified middle tier would presumably sit.
Bundling economics: why put Grok inside X
A bundle changes what each dollar pays for. X Premium has long sold verification and fewer ads, features with almost no marginal compute cost. Adding Grok to that base lets the company price a mostly software-margin product while offering a headline AI feature. The free tier's tighter limits cap the cost of casual use, and the Ultra tier is where heavy inference is meant to be paid for directly.
The TechCrunch analysis of consumer AI economics explains why that matters. It cites PNC Research finding only 2.2% of consumers paid for AI in May 2026 (averaging $31 per month) and a Bank of America figure of roughly 3% of U.S. consumers. It argues that even Netflix-scale adoption, 325 million subscribers at $34 each, would yield about $11 billion a year, less than a third of OpenAI's operating costs. Its conclusion: consumer economics put a hard cap on growth without enterprise revenue.
The ugly economics of consumer AI put a hard cap on how large the company can plausibly grow without tapping into enterprise revenue.
TechCrunch, September 30, 2026
For a company with an existing social network, bundling is one answer: distribution and ad inventory already exist, so the AI product does not have to carry the whole business.
What a $100 agent tier signals
Putting Grok Bot in the top tier says agents are being priced as a different category from chat. Our earlier post on Grok Bot and AI teammates covers how the agent works: it runs on a cloud computer and signs into tools on a user's behalf. Agents consume far more compute per task than a chat reply, so they need a price that a casual plan cannot support. The $100 point also matches Claude Max and ChatGPT Pro, which suggests the market is converging on it for heavy usage.
The reporting adds context: Grok Bot reached 418,000 weekly users as of September 14, up 24% week over week, and SpaceX acquired Cursor for $60 billion in August. A data-heavy angle, such as the Grok and Plaid finance integration, shows the kind of tasks a premium agent tier could be sold on.
What to watch
- Whether SpaceXAI confirms the plan, and what the unspecified fourth tier costs.
- Whether existing SuperGrok and X Premium subscribers are migrated or grandfathered.
- How tight the free tier's Grok limits become.
- Whether the Ultra tier's usage is capped, as rival power tiers are.

The takeaway for users
Subscription ladders are converging, and each vendor now sells its own agent at the top. For people who use several assistants, paying for each separately adds up quickly. Tools that route across models, such as Metir, let one subscription cover many providers, which is one way to stay flexible while pricing keeps shifting.
