Reports Nov 4, 2026.
Consensus is $2.66 EPS for Sep 2026 across 8 estimates, ranging $2.25 to $2.87.
Targa's second quarter was a clear upside print, led by record operating performance rather than revenue growth. Diluted EPS of $3.54 exceeded the $2.83 consensus by 25.09%, increased from $2.87 in the year-ago quarter and rose from $2.21 in Q1. Revenue was $4.440 billion, up 4% year over year and 9% sequentially, while net income attributable to Targa increased 22% year over year to $764.6 million and 59% from the prior quarter.
The defining feature was adjusted EBITDA of $1.603 billion, up 38% year over year and 14% sequentially. The gain reflected higher Permian inlet volumes and fee-based margin in Gathering and Processing, alongside a particularly strong Logistics and Transportation result. L&T adjusted operating margin rose 44% to $1.063 billion as greater marketing optimization, new Train 11 capacity and higher NGL transportation, fractionation and export volumes lifted results. Targa also converted the earnings strength into better cash generation: adjusted free cash flow was $205.3 million versus negative $9.6 million a year earlier despite $1.113 billion of quarterly growth capital spending. Management now expects full-year EBITDA toward the top of its existing range, but the strategy remains capital intensive, with $4.5 billion of 2026 growth spending planned and consolidated debt of $19.6 billion at quarter-end.
Targa's core earnings accelerated across both segments. Adjusted EBITDA rose to $1.603 billion from $1.163 billion a year earlier and increased 14% from Q1. GAAP operating income was $1.235 billion, up 19% year over year, while net income attributable to Targa was $764.6 million, up 22%.
Gathering and Processing benefited from continued producer activity, recently added plants and the Stakeholder acquisition. The volume growth translated into higher fee-based margin despite a difficult gas-price environment in the Permian.
L&T was the largest incremental contributor to the quarter's upside. Adjusted operating margin increased 44% year over year to $1.063 billion, with management citing greater marketing optimization opportunities and volume growth flowing through the integrated NGL network.
Targa continues to position the business for substantial Permian and NGL infrastructure growth. The company maintained its 2026 net growth capital expenditure estimate at approximately $4.5 billion, alongside approximately $250 million of maintenance spending.
The stronger quarter supported higher shareholder distributions, but Targa remains in an aggressive investment and financing phase. Debt increased from $17.4 billion at year-end 2025 to $19.6 billion at June 30, 2026, partly reflecting the Stakeholder acquisition and system expansion.
