Consensus is $2.26 EPS for Dec 2026 across 5 estimates, ranging $2.24 to $2.29.
West’s Q3 was an underlying growth and mix-driven margin quarter, with a substantial additional lift to GAAP earnings from the SmartDose sale. Revenue of $874.5 million increased 8.7% year over year, or 11.9% organically, but was nearly flat sequentially versus $872.3 million in Q2. Adjusted diluted EPS of $2.66 beat the $2.18 consensus by 22.0% and rose 35.7% from $1.96 a year ago. GAAP EPS was $3.02, up from $1.92 a year ago and $2.15 in Q2, but includes the $55.7 million pretax gain on the divestiture; adjusted EPS is the cleaner view of ongoing performance.
The core growth engine was Proprietary Products, particularly HVP Components, where organic sales rose 20.3%. This mix helped lift gross margin to 39.7% from 36.6% and adjusted operating margin to 25.3% from 21.1%. West Vantage remained the counterpoint, with organic sales down 6.6% amid a lapsed customer contract and production inefficiencies. West raised full-year sales and adjusted EPS guidance, while lowering its capital spending outlook. The quarter also featured significant shareholder returns: $231 million of buybacks and an 18% increase in the declared quarterly dividend to $0.26 per share.
Proprietary Products generated $728.8 million of sales, up 12.6% reported and 16.6% organically. HVP Components supplied most of the growth, with continued demand in biologics and GLP-1 products and higher pricing; HVP Delivery Devices also grew strongly after excluding SmartDose and currency effects. Standard Products advanced modestly. Across the company, volume and mix contributed $58.3 million of Q3 growth and price increases contributed $33.6 million.
The operating performance improved alongside the sales mix: consolidated gross profit increased 18.0% year over year to $347.4 million, and gross margin expanded 3.1 percentage points to 39.7%. Adjusted operating profit was $221.5 million, up from $170.1 million, and adjusted operating margin rose 4.2 points to 25.3%. GAAP operating profit of $267.4 million also reflects the SmartDose disposal gain; the adjusted measure removes the net M&A benefit and is more representative of the quarter’s operating trend.
The July 1 sale to AbbVie changed both reported earnings and the sales comparison. West received $126.9 million in cash and recognized a $55.7 million pretax gain. The gain contributed to the gap between GAAP operating profit of $267.4 million and adjusted operating profit of $221.5 million; the transaction also carried a one-time $22.4 million tax cost. SmartDose revenue was $11.8 million this quarter versus $29.8 million in the year-ago quarter, so the lower reported sales comparison partly reflects the divestiture rather than underlying demand. West expects no further SmartDose sales in 2026.
West Vantage sales declined 7.3% reported and 6.6% organically to $145.7 million. The planned expiration of a continuous glucose monitoring customer contract at one facility was the main sales headwind; higher sales of diabetes and obesity self-injection devices and device components, plus pricing, partially offset it. Profitability weakened as well: segment operating profit fell to $15.5 million from $22.3 million, while gross margin contracted to 16.5% from 19.3%. West attributed the pressure to product mix, inflationary plant costs and ramp-up costs in drug-handling programs; the filing also cites production downtime related to the May cyber incident in the nine-month comparison and says operations have fully recovered.
West raised its full-year outlook following the quarter’s sales and adjusted EPS performance, while trimming planned investment. The revised organic sales range implies continued growth after excluding currency and the SmartDose transaction. Share repurchases and the dividend increase were substantial, though nine-month operating cash flow was lower than the prior year as working capital absorbed cash.
