Ciena’s fiscal third quarter was another step-up quarter in an AI- and cloud-led networking cycle. Revenue reached $1.67 billion, 37% above the year-ago $1.22 billion and 6% above the prior quarter’s $1.57 billion. Supplied reported EPS of $1.91 exceeded the $1.46 consensus by 30.8%; the filing’s GAAP diluted EPS was $1.83, while adjusted EPS was $2.11, compared with $0.35 and $0.67, respectively, a year earlier. Net income increased to $266.4 million from $50.3 million in the year-ago quarter and $218.2 million in the prior quarter.
The print was defined by sustained optical demand, significant operating leverage and higher forward expectations. Optical Networking grew 46.1% to $1.19 billion, while total Networking Platforms revenue rose 44.0% to $1.36 billion. Gross margin expanded to 45.4% from 41.3%, and GAAP operating margin rose to 18.0% from 6.1%; adjusted operating margin was 22.5%. Ciena raised fiscal 2026 revenue guidance to $6.42 billion at the midpoint and expects $1.75 billion of fourth-quarter revenue. The main counterweights were concentration in a small number of cloud customers, $3.3 billion of supplier purchase commitments and weaker Blue Planet revenue, which fell 16.5% year over year to $23.2 million.
